Here’s how you can make sure your pool stays healthy during winter so you can enjoy it during the warmer months.

Test Your Chlorine Levels:   When the water temperature drops, typically averaging around 16 degrees in Brisbane, the demand for chlorine to combat bacteria decreases significantly. However, this can unintentionally lead to an accumulation of chlorine in your pool. Excess chlorine levels pose a risk to pool cleaners, blankets, and heaters. To prevent any damage, it’s important to regularly test and monitor your chlorine levels. By maintaining an appropriate balance, you can protect your pool equipment while ensuring a clean and healthy swimming environment (if you’re brave enough).

Additionally, checking the pump’s mechanical seal and bearings on a regular basis helps identify any potential issues early on. The advantage of winter is that you can afford to take your pool out of action for a few days without impacting its operation. Use this downtime to perform maintenance tasks, ensuring your pool is primed for peak performance when the warmer months return.

We’re hitting peak times for our pools as family and friends gather for Christmas. So how do you make sure your pool is at it’s best? Here are our five tips for keeping your pool in the best condition this holiday season:

Keep an eye on the water level.

To keep your pool running smoothly and efficiently, it’s important to make sure the water level is topped up. The warm weather causes increased evaporation this time of year which can often go unnoticed. If the water level drops too low, it can cause damage to the pump and other equipment, and can also lead to problems with water circulation and filtration. To avoid these issues, make sure to check the water level regularly and add water as needed.

Run your filter equipment for long enough.

To effectively remove debris and other contaminants from your pool water, it’s important to run your filter equipment for long enough each day. We recommend you run your filter for at least six to eight hours per day. This will ensure that the water is properly filtered and clear.

Bring in a sample of your pool water for testing.

To keep your pool water balanced and healthy, it’s important to regularly test the water and adjust the levels of chemicals as needed. We encourage you to visit us with a sample of your pool water so we can test the water and provide you with the necessary chemicals to balance it.

At the first sign of algae, treat it immediately.

Algae can quickly take over your pool if left untreated, causing the water to become cloudy and unappealing. Stormy and warm weather creates ideal conditions for algae to develop.

Keep a supply of oxidizer and clarifier on hand.

In addition to algaecides, it’s also a good idea to keep a supply of oxidizer and clarifier on hand. Oxidizer helps to break down organic contaminants in the water, such as sweat and body oils, while clarifier helps to clear up cloudy water. Using these products regularly can help to keep your pool water clean and clear. Spring is here!

The weather is getting warmer (the increase in temperature from August to September is the largest monthly jump of the year for Brisbane).

And that means more of us will be using our pools again.

While many of us enjoy the warmth, our pools also feel the heat.

And that means greater demand for pool chemicals and equipment to maintain a clean and healthy pool.

Here are our Four Spring Tips to prepare your pool for the season ahead and for the kids to enjoy these school holidays.

• Chemically clean your filtration system

It’s best to start the season with a clean filtration system that can withstand the increased pool use. Chemically cleaning your filtration system can be done at home and takes one to two days. Visit the Easy Pools store to pick-up some BioGuard Filter Brite. If you haven’t cleaned your filter in the last year, we highly recommend this tip.

• Increase your filtering time

It’s important your pool thoroughly circulates all the necessary chemicals to clean the water. Increase the use of your filter system to eight to 10 hours per day. Your pool needs enough time to circulate chemicals to avoid cloudy issues or algae.

• Turn up chlorine production

Often, pool owners get caught out with too little chlorine in the pool. That’s because chlorine consumption increases the warmer the water becomes. For every five- degree increase in water temperature, pools require 50 per cent more chlorine.

And with the filter operating for longer, extra chlorine is needed to kill bacteria in the water. The Queensland heat can be extreme throughout summer so being prepared will help pool owners stay ahead.

• Bring in a water sample

Easy Pool customers are great at regularly testing their pool water. We recommend doing a test at least once per month through pool season. In addition to this, five to 10 minutes of pool maintenance each week will help prevent any major issues.
