Make sure that all the equipment is in place and working properly. It is necessary to use an automatic brominator. Brominating Tablets cannot be used in skimmers, floaters, or automatic chlorinators. Check the sizing chart on the brominator to make sure it is adequate for your pool volume.
- Perform a complete water analysis and follow ALEX recommendations for balancing the water and shocking to establish a sanitiser residual.
- Fill the brominator according to manufacturer instructions and set the brominator output to high to begin establishing a total bromine reading. To test manually for the total bromine residual, use the same DPD #1 tablet as for testing the free chlorine residual.
- Test the total bromine each day for the first two weeks and shock as needed. It may be necessary to shock periodically with 1 bag of Lite per 50,000 litres or 150 grams of Burn Out 35 per 10,000 litres while the brominator works to establish a residual.
- When the total bromine residual is held consistently, adjust the feeder to the appropriate level. Maintain 2.0 – 4.0 ppm total bromine residual for residential pools and 4.0 – 6.0 ppm for commercial pools.
